Plumbing and fixtures are some of the top sources of water damage in residential properties. They can leak as they deteriorate over time, or they can burst when temperatures drop below freezing. Poor installation is another reason that many people find themselves cleaning up water around their sinks.

No matter the reason behind why the sink is leaking, it’s sure to cause quite a few problems for the homeowners. Not only can the water damage cabinets and flooring, but it can also lead to mold growth, rot, and other secondary issues if it goes unnoticed for too long. In fact, these types of problems are common because leaks can remain hidden under kitchen sinks for weeks or months before they are discovered.

In situations like this, it’s important for homeowners to hire a professional to help restore the
water damage in Pflugerville. Pflugerville residents can count on Texas Certified Restoration to assist them. This case study is a great example of how their team of professionals is able to restore homes impacted by leaking sinks.

The Cause of the Water Damage

A Pflugerville homeowner discovered a significant leak in their kitchen that had led to substantial water damage. They were able to determine that their kitchen sink was the source of the leak. By the time they were able to address the issue, the water damage had impacted other areas of the kitchen as well as the living room. For that reason, they contacted the experts of Texas Certified Restoration to help get their home back to its pre-loss condition.

Texas Certified Restoration’s Assessment of the Damage

As soon as Texas Certified Restoration received the call, they dispatched a team of contractors to assess the water damage in Pflugerville. They arrived on the scene with all of the tools that they would need to determine the type of water and extent of the damage.

Their moisture meters were especially helpful in determining how far the leak had spread water throughout the house. They checked walls, baseboards, cabinets, flooring, and other areas in the home. By the time they were finished, they were able to determine that the event was isolated to the kitchen and living room.

The Process for Restoring the Pflugerville Home

Based on their assessment, Texas Certified Restoration created a custom restoration solution for the water damage, and it included the following steps:

  • Contain the Water Damage
  • Remove Damaged Materials
  • Dry out the Affected Area
  • Clean & Disinfect
  • Monitor for Moisture

Containment of Water Damage

In order to top the spread of damage to other rooms, the water damage specialists built a containment in the kitchen and living room. They set up plastic that would help to separate the area. The containment also helped to keep dust and debris out of the rest of the home as they worked on the demolition process.

Removal of Damaged Materials

Once the containment area was all set up, the contractors could finally start to remove some of the materials that were too saturated to be dried out properly. They ended up removing some of the drywall and baseboards in the living room, and they also removed cabinets and drywall in the kitchen.

Drying and Dehumidifying

With the drywall removed, the technicians were able to dry out the interior of the walls. Therefore, they set up their drying and dehumidification equipment. They strategically placed air movers and dehumidifiers throughout the affected area and ran them until the moisture meters indicated that the rooms had been dried thoroughly.

Cleaning & Disinfecting

Since the water damage had spread throughout several areas, the water damage experts also took precautions to prevent mold growth from occurring in the future. They used their antimicrobial solution to spray the affected area and eliminate any of the bacteria that had been left behind from the leak.

Monitoring Progress

Finally, the contractors wrapped up the project by monitoring the area. They spent a few days checking the house with their moisture meter tools to ensure that there was no more moisture present. The homeowners were very pleased with the results, and they were happy with how thorough the contractors were with the drying process.
