Water Damage Yacht Job in Austin, TX

November 20, 2023

Water damage doesn’t discriminate. It isn’t limited to burst pipes in commercial buildings or flooding in homes. It can occur anywhere—even on a yacht. Though yachts are designed to be in the water, that doesn’t mean that water is welcome inside. Not only can water damage to a boat’s interior cause mold problems, but it can lead to rot, depending on the materials inside.

When internal water damage occurs, it’s imperative that the owner of the yacht act quickly to fix the problem and clean up the mess. Unfortunately, this isn’t necessarily a service that many
water damage restoration companies offer.

Most stick with residential and commercial buildings, but at Texas Certified Restoration, crews work hard to help their customers regardless of the request. In this particular case study, the restoration company had the opportunity to complete a remediation and cleanup for a
water damage yacht

The Yacht Water Damage Problem Presented to Texas Certified Restoration

Back in April, Texas Certified Restoration was contacted by a marine gas and diesel boat repair facility in Austin, Texas. The client contacted the restoration company to discuss water damage that had occurred on one of their yachts.

The owner believed that the window of the boat was damaged while it was being transferred. It appeared that it had gotten caught on wires that pulled it back, leaving the boat exposed to the elements. In addition, it was not sealed when the top got put back on.

As a result, the yacht suffered from substantial water damage. Yacht-style boats have an interior cabin that can be more susceptible to mold. In this particular case, mold was found growing in several places, including the furniture and carpet. It was even growing on ceiling areas and underneath the bench seating.

The owner of the yacht reached out to
Texas Certified Restoration to handle the mold remediation as well as the water damage cleanup process.

The Process for Restoring the Water-Damaged Yacht

Even though this is not a typical job for the restoration crew, Texas Certified Restoration provided the same quality of work they would on any other water damage project. For this specific job, the contractors were responsible for:

  • Inspection
  • Mold Remediation
  • Water Damage Cleanup

Inspect

As soon as Texas Certified Restoration arrived on the scene, they started the inspection process. Though the owner of the yacht had already identified many problem areas, it was crucial that the restoration crew look for any signs of hidden damage that could worsen over time.

Fortunately, the restoration company is equipped with all of the right tools to thoroughly inspect the yacht and assess moisture levels. They were able to locate all of the mold and hidden water damage successfully. Based on their findings, they developed a mold remediation and cleanup plan.

Water Damage Cleanup

The water damage cleanup process was relatively simple. They addressed the main areas of concern that suffered the most damage to make sure that no more water had accumulated. They also advised the client that they would not be able to remove the water stains that were left on either the vinyl or the carpeting. Instead, those would have to be removed and replaced.

Mold Remediation

Most of the restoration company’s efforts were focused on the mold remediation process. When the crew arrived at the yacht, they were already equipped with the tools they would need to remove all mold spores from the surfaces and air. In fact, the air scrubber was started on day one of the remediation.

The contractors also hot fogged the interior of the cabin. Since there are many hard-to-reach crevices in the different rooms, this was the best option for reaching any possible mold growth.

Finally, the crew worked to clean any suspect mold off of several places, including the seating and ceiling. They also wiped down any non-porous surfaces, such as the tables and counters.

No matter what a customer's mold or water damage problem may look like,
